SIMPSON PROJECT -
MODERN YARRAVILLE EXTENSION

Nestled in the heart of Yarraville, this quirky extension was a lot fun to build. Unlike your typical extension where you knock the back part of the building down, this second storey addition - designed by Circle Studio sat on top and wrapped around the existing weatherboard home. New solid timber windows flooded the house with natural light, which tied in perfectly with the charred timber cladding.

Inside the upper storey, the ceiling was clad in birch plywood panels with no fixings and each panel was cut to fit the desired layout. Now known as the blue house, all walls upstairs were painted blue to truly define the character of the home. Brass fittings and fixtures provided a bit of bling to the home but tied in perfectly with the blue walls.

This home was a finalist in the Architeam Awards in 2019 for the best Residential Alterations and Additions and has also been featured on Hunting for George and Dwell.
