the mindful builder - podcast
We started a podcast because there are two conversations the construction industry is not having loudly enough. The first is mental health. The second is what it actually means to build high performance homes, energy efficient homes, and certified Passive Houses that genuinely improve the lives of the people living in them. We did not want to do it alone, so we teamed up with our good friend Hamish from Sanctum Homes to create something that tackles both. The Mindful Builder brings in industry experts, celebrates the people doing the work properly, and asks the hard questions about where Australian construction needs to go. Our friend Julie, a practicing psychologist, joins us regularly to navigate the mental health side of the industry. Dr Cameron Munro, one of Australia's leading building scientists, joins us monthly to go deep on building science, Passive House design, and what sustainable building in Melbourne and across the country actually looks like in practice.
We are both pretty good at knowing what we do not know. So we have surrounded ourselves with the best people in the industry and given them a platform. The construction industry has a reputation problem. Too many builders overpromise and underdeliver. Too many trades are burning out. Too many homeowners are handed keys to homes that were never tested and never proven to perform. The Mindful Builder exists to flip that. To put genuine confidence back into the industry by being honest about the hard stuff, celebrating the builders and designers doing it right, and showing that a sustainable home in Melbourne, a certified Passive House builder in Melbourne, and a genuinely healthy building culture are not mutually exclusive with running a successful business.
