It’s a home that was build for comfort in Melbournes Inner West, and areas that at times doesn’t have the greatest air quality.

You've probably heard a lot about "sustainability" and "energy efficiency" lately. These buzzwords are everywhere, but what do they really mean in practice? The truth is, the industry takes a fragmented approach, focusing on individual "green" features without considering how they all work together. This can lead to homes that fall short of their full potential for comfort, health, and durability. The only way to be a true sustainable builder in Melbourne is the build passive house projects. Well that’s what we think.

Our clients initially weren't familiar with the Passive House standard, and that's perfectly fine. They simply wanted a comfortable, healthy, and resilient home for their two children—a home that wouldn't cost a fortune to run. They wanted a space to raise their family that would be separated from the outdoors, but if they wanted to, they could connect with the outsides by opening the amazing aluclad triple-glazed windows and doors.

And who wouldn't want all of this? But these crucial aspects often get overlooked if they're not prioritised from the outset. This discussion needs to be had early, like it did between us, the client and altereco design. We believe in having these conversations early in the design process. By planning for a high-performing home from the start, we can achieve significant savings and avoid costly retrofits later on.
